This is salvaged from the old forums, but still as useful now as it ever was...
Ok I thought this might be handy for new girls and potential new girls,
I can be hard to know what to bring or ask to borrow when you first start so here is the list
To Derby You need
Kit bag: Big enough for all your stuff, some girls prefer wheeled suitcases because they can be towed
Water Bottle: Some form of liquid is always needed most nights we bring extras down for you
Skates: You can borrow these to start with but when you want your own talk to John at everglides, the most common skates on our team are the RW Bandit and the Riedell R3
Pads- Elbow and knee protectors are a must again we can lend you these. Most derby Girls favour the Anarchy Bullet proof range as a starter set.
Wrist Guards-We are happy to loan you a set, when getting your own, SFR and Anarchy are the popular makes
Skid Lid- We have several spares but the only way to be certain of the right fit is to get your own (you don't need one immediately) Petite girls should consider getting a youth or childs size as many standard fits seem to sized for men.A badly fitted helmet is as much use as an inflatable dart board
It seems that TSG are the new front runners for Helmets, they actually make ones for LADIES, which have been designed and tweaked for a better fit! They are usually between £30 and £35 but this is your head we're talking about!
Mouth Guard- You'll need your own one of these before you can scrimage. Shock Doctor make amazing ones
First aid kit- We have full a kit on standby but having your own is always wise esp if you have any allergies to ceratin products
Beer Money- definately bring your own lol
Optional but very derby
Fishnets- The joys of primark
Stripey Socks- Primark, afflecks and your local market
Booty shorts- Fashion shops everywhere
Helmet stickers- Hobby craft
We can lend most things to any newbies but you do need your own mouth guard! If you need any advice or are unsure about anything just grab someone and ask, we are a nice bunch of nutters (and in some cases the girls can go on and on and on about all things derby for weeks).
